Graduate Diploma in Extractive Metallurgy

Course Code: G1034

The Graduate Diploma provides specialised training in the core disciplines of extractive metallurgy -- mineral processing, hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy. It has been devised for the benefit of graduates currently working in the minerals industry who now find they need specialised knowledge in extractive metallurgy, and others who wish to prepare for a higher degree in extractive metallurgy (i.e. Masters or PhD). Students study core units from the BSc Mineral Science degree or undertake a combination of units and a project.

The course is available on a fee-paying basis only.

Employment Prospects:Many students taking this qualification will already be employed in the minerals industry as engineers or chemists. Other graduates can expect to find employment in mineral processing and metal extraction plants throughout Australia and overseas.
Special Requirements:This course is best suited for part-time students or overseas students who wish to study for a higher degree in extractive metallurgy. On-campus laboratory sessions are a requirement in all units. Higher-level units are available externally in alternate years.
Professional Recognition:Diplomates will be eligible for graduate membership of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
