Projects
Mineral Science is well equipped to conduct the following projects:
1. Studies on chemical speciation to rationalise leaching of minerals with sulphur dioxide/oxygen
2. Trace metal catalysis of reactions of hydrometallurgical importance.
3. Leaching behaviour of low grade nickel sulphuric and lateritic ore.
4. The role of water in high temperature aqueous chemical reactions and applications to hydrometallurgy
5. The measurement of pH in high temperature hydrometallurgical systems.
6. Bacterial leaching of minerals - Inhibition of Cell Growth During Biooxidation (in collaboration with Dr David Ralph).
7. The measurement of heat capacities of electrolytes of hydrometallurgical importance (in collaboration with A/Professor Glenn Hefter).
8. Beneficiation and utilisation of red mud residues from alumina processing (in collaboration with A/Professor Norm Stockton, Curtin University of Technology).
